Not Every Good Book Is Blog-Worthy
I didn’t post last week. The first part of this month has been crazy with doctor appointments and schedule changes and I knew I probably wouldn’t get anything written. When I sat down to work on what was to be this week’s post, I didn’t know what to write. The book I had planned to review was well-written, it was interesting, I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t think of a thing to say about it.
I stared at the computer screen, picked up the book, flipped through it, stared at the screen some more, walked away, came back. It took me several days to come to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to be able to write about the book. I didn’t have anything to say and if there’s nothing to say…
The experience got me to thinking. What is the purpose of this blog? I want to connect readers and authors. I want to put books in front of you that are useful. Books that will help you be a better writer or be more organized or encourage you to work towards your dream or inspire you or entertain you.
Some books, while good, just don’t fit what I want for the blog. Going forward I need to ask myself: how will this book benefit you, my blog reader? What will it teach you? How will it entertain you? Will it inspire you? Of course, the beauty of books is that they reach us all in different ways, so what inspires me, may not inspire you. My hope is that at least some of the books I post about will benefit you.
